Magazine publishers

MAGAZINE PUBLISHERS

IPC Media produces over 60 iconic media brands, with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men – almost 26 million UK adults, with a website that brings in 20 million users a month. IPC is a possible contender for my magazine to be published into because even though it is not a major company it publishes magazines such as NME and Uncut, both of these magazines are very large and match the criteria of my magazine.
IPC only holds a few rock/indie magazines and most are aimed at the older audience, because of this it would make it a lot easier for me to gain a place at IPC due to the fact my magazine will be aimed at the younger audience. This will offer IPC with something new to work with. IPC is a large Media company and distributes their work across the world, but they are based in the Uk.

Bauer Media reaches over nineteen million UK adults across multiple media channels.
Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations. They are a large media company and can offer many opportunities, this may be an optional company to distribute my magazine from, also Bauer does music magazines such as
“Q” and “Kerrang” which are both very similar to my theme and criteria I wish to use for my magazine “Frets”. “Q” and “Kerrang” are both Indie style magazines and “Kerrang” is more rock related, because this is how I wish to make my magazine (Rock/Indie) it will mean competition between my magazine and to Bauer’s already existing music magazines , but it will also offer me the chance to make a niche in my chosen market.

In conclusion I think Bauer would be the company most suited for my magazine, due to it’s large distribution and it’s large range of multi media. Also Bauer holds more magazines relevant to my magazine criteria there for has more experience then IPC Media on advertising for these sorts of products.

Magazine ideology

                                                                     MAGAZINE IDEOLOGY

What information did I find out from my market research?

I found out that the majority of the people who took my survey would prefer a Rock magazine other than an RnB or Indie magazine. I also found that a suitable age for my magazine to range from would be 18-23, I have decided this from understanding that the majority of the people who answered my questions were in education or they were part time workers. From this I also know what suitable advertisements I could use in my magazine such as itunes and concert tickets. The information I have gained has given me a rough idea of how my magazine should come together and how I can develop my ideas to match the criteria.

Is there a niche in the market for your product?

I think even though my magazine does follow what has already been made in the market in past productions, I think my magazine would make a niche in the market. I think this because with the information I have already gained I now have the knowledge and understanding of how I could make my product something new, from working off old ideas I can develop them and create a fresh, new product. Because more Rock magazines are on demand at this period of time this will also help me introduce my product.

How will my magazine differ from others already in existence?

My magazine will differ from other magazines because i will make my magazine unique beyond others. I will do this by introducing fresh new design and layout, I can provide new stories and gossip no other magazine can get their hands on. I can get insight in to the music world and other my readers something new. I understand how my readers work and what they demand in my magazine and I will deliver this to them.

Which magazines do I find an inspiration?

I find NME and Karrang to be the most inspiring magazines.  Both these magazines match my criteria in advertising and informing their audiences with  the latest bands and music information. The use of design and composition they use on their magazines is similar to how I picture my magazine. Also how they present their information. The genre matches to that I will be using which is rock, indie. Their use of language can sometimes be informal and in other areas formal, I will be using the same technique for my final outcome.

I will name my magazine Frets due to the fact a fret is terminology for a guitar and pert of a guitar, because my magazine is going to be in relation to rock and indie music I thought this would be a simple and necessary name to give my magazine. I will aim my magazine to a young audience between the ages of 18-23, the majority of my audience will be male but overall it will be aimed at both male and female. I have decided this from the information I gained from my survey. My magazine supply new and fresh opportunities and information for my readers to enjoy. It will overall be inspiring and get young minds out there enjoying new opportunities, music and gossip.
